James is excited to share that his book length study of post-World War II American literature has been released by University of Wales Press and is being distributed by University of Chicago Press: https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/distributed/H/bo185830685.html

The book examines the work of writers such as William Faulkner, William Styron, Truman Capote, Carson McCullers, Shirley Jackson, Grace Metalious, Mary Roberts Rinehart, Elizabeth George Speare, August Derleth, Fredric Brown, James Baldwin, Ralph Ellison, Chester Himes, Margaret Millar, Raymond Chandler, Richard Matheson, and Ross Macdonald. It considers how the regions we inhabit (and more specifically, the cultures of those regions) shape our anxieties and how these writers interact with both regional anxieties and the Gothic traditions that have so often been founded on those anxieties.
